Mindi Abair Mindi Abair is a saxophonist, singer, composer, author and radio show host. As a solo artist, she has produced 10 #1 radio singles and 5 major label solo releases for Verve and Concord Records that have topped the Contemporary Jazz Charts. She is a Berklee College of Music graduate, and an elected governor for the Los Angeles Chapter of NARAS. Mindi was featured twice on the 2011 season of "American Idol" and also appeared on the 2011 season for the Fran Drescher show “Happily Divorcedâ€. The list of artists she has toured or recorded with are a testament to her talent. In the year 2000, Mr. Cooper founded the company Verimatrix, which is a recognized leader in content security and watermarking. Hi! Guns n' Roses does every move that Mindi mentions. It is amazing to see how they connect with their audience. They are the masters of performance for sure!The first time that I read this book, I got it at the library. I purchased it now because it has such great advice for anyone giving a speech, playing music, singing to a crowd, etc. Anyone in Marketing/Sales should read this book.
Life is a stage, and If you are REALLY serious about performing on life's stage whether in the board room, an open mic night, or Madison Square Garden, this book is a must read...correction you MUST read this book and adopt and implement these principals in your daily life. This book breaks everything down for you and encourages you to develop the principles to suit your situation while developing your own unique style. I have read my copy so may times the pages are becoming worn yet the information remains fresh. As I develop and my stage presence grows, I continually find new ways to utilize this information. I have seen the results of applying this information in my own performances. BUY THIS BOOK And LIVE IT! You deserve it.
When applied, the content of this book is dangerously powerful in producing an explosive career in performance art. It is not limited to musical applications but serves well for any group encounters such as public speaking, teaching, sales, political speech makers, just to name a few. Solid information from pro's; such as, maximizing your ability to connect with the entire audience, gaining the appearance of eye contact by segmenting the crowd in sections you can connect with.This is just the tip of the iceberg, very informative and a great deal for anyone with ambitions to become a better performer, both on stage and off! Highly recommend this and a great bang for the buck!
My duo plays medium sized venues (about 250 people on average) in a restaurant/ bar setting. We knew our music was solid but crowd response was not what we wished. It seemed we were background music even though we were on the "big stage". By incorporating some of the methods in the book and changing some of the general ways of thinking about our show there was an IMMEDIATE impact on our crowd interaction. People have become more involved and we are having more fun. This book is a must-read for any level of live performer.
When you read the Acknowledgments, you will notice Young American Showcase prominently mentioned, and for good reason. I was a part of YAS in 1983, and every lesson taught in this book was taught to us in person, every day, for a MONTH before they put us on the road. You would sit and take notes, while everything was being demonstrated to you. I've been an entertainer for 30 years, and when people come up to me after a show and tell me what a great time they had, I'm just so grateful for the incredible training that I was given. No matter what genre of music you play, no matter how good a showperson you THINK you are, this book will turn your thinking on it's head, I promise you that. If you're a musician or singer or performer of any kind, this is REQUIRED READING.
