Hypotension and bradycardiaIn my LEWIS MED SURG book and in lectures, they clearly state that BRADYCARDIA AND HYPOTENSION are the trademarks of NEUROGENIC SHOCK. Yet Davis states "A." NO REFLEX TO MOVE UPPER EXTREMITIES" is the right asnwer.The rationale they had for option 4 was: Hypotension and TACHYCARDIA are signs of hypovolemic shock or septic shock, but these do not occur in SPINAL SHOCK.First: the question included BRADYCARDIA NOT TACHYCARDIA. Second, it was talking about NEUROGENIC , NOT SPINAL SHOCK!
I am a stressed out Nursing Student. This was helpful to know how to answer the blessed NCLEX style questions that we were being subjected to. I failed my first test and in an awesome feat of panic managed to score really high one the following tests allowing me to pass my MedSurg class. Buy the book use it to supplement the questions you can find on the internet. Also go over to youtube and watch the registered rn videos, they pair really nicely with the chapters in this book. Good Luck and you will get through it.
I really doubted this book would benefit me. Oh boy was I wrong! I used this book as an additional study resource and it improved my exam score by 10 points.
My school has recommended all of the Success books as part of our curriculum and I've bought them all and generally found them to be useful -- for the most part.I've noticed a LOT of typos or just incorrect information in the neuro section. For example, facial drooping on the left side, and the answer key indicating that a right-sided stroke is not a possible cause as this is a symptom of a left-sided stroke. (P. 57 Q3)There are also sections where the answer key does not highlight or indicate clearly what the correct answers are. These mistakes come down to poor proofreading. Further clarification on mistakes and online corrections where applicable is needed.
I asked FA Davis about access to online resources since the Kindle edition doesn't come with a Plus Code Access option, and they replied that the Kindle edition doesn't get that. I can purchase an access code separately...for another $37.50.(Other publishers, OTOH, have happily given me access to supplemental online resources when I provided proof of purchase of a Kindle edition.)
I am currently in nursing school and my rotation is on a medical surgical unit, as well as my theory class covers a lot of medical surgical topics. I heard about these books to help with practice questions and boost test grades. These books are absolutely amazing. The questions are very thought out with rationales at the end of each question when you’re checking your answers. There are questions for nearly every subject matter and it really has helped bump up my test grades and my knowledge. An absolute must!
This book really helped my grades increase by about 10 points per test! My only regret is not purchasing it earlier in the semester. I really recommend this book for students in med surg
I really need to quit being in denial about the book lol. After completing all required reading for class, I will toss everything & go straight to this book-night before exam. My grades have definitely improved this final semester of nursing school.
