I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and waited anxiously for the next installment. I really enjoy this genre and Mr. Cooper does it well. I would definitely recommend this series to family and friends.
I've read many of C. G. Cooper's books, starting with the Corps Justice. Many books in to the series, I realized there was another series about a character that joined the team a few books in. His name is Daniel Briggs. This series is about Daniel before he knew about Cal Stokes and his group. Daniel is a highly decorated former marine who served in the Middle East, and is trying to drown his PTSD in alcohol. He has a destination in Florida, traveling by bus, but drinking along the way. His last memory is of the bus stopping for a rest stop, and going into a bar, and he wakes up with a pounding hangover in someone's barn. Hearing voices, he realizes someone is after him. Instead of hiding, he confronts them and the insuing fight tangles him with a corrupt but powerful family in a small town. Befriended by the farmer who owns the barn, he finds things get complicated really fast, and he is in for a fight for his life and the people around him. This book is even more exciting and fast paced than the other books Mr. Cooper has written, and I'm looking forward to the next 3 books in the Daniel Briggs series. It pulls you in from the start, and holds you there. It was dawn before I could finally put it down, but even then it was because my eyes were so tired it was difficult to read. Great book!
A discharged Marine sniper is trying to find himself as a civilian in Florida. He is haunted by memories of his warfare and uses alcohol as a buffer. This story is similar to the westerns I used to read in the 50's. A bully ranch owner takes over the community and their spreads. There is several small hold outs. Our veteran comes to a gal's aid and incurs the wrath of the bully's kin. He hides in the holdout's barn for the night and they team up. The rest of the story is how the good-guys succeed. The methods, techniques and equipment is all up to date and very original. I loved the westerns and I loved this one
I've had this book for a while on my kindle and somehow over looked it. I found it as I scoured my list of books I still need to read. The beginning started off slow, I almost put it down but decided to give it a few more chapters. I did enjoy the book, finding no spelling errors or anything that screamed out of place.... It picked up in the middle and I had to ask myself, why a few times but other then that it was good. Fast paced, a page turner however the ending fell flat. It just kinda stopped. Nothing about a second book or this Marines future. It showed honor among men, and how evil some can be. I hated the weak, and was glad that most if not all got what they deserved. It showed trust in one man from another, somehow I felt Hollie saw something in Daniel.... Looked after him like he was his son, not just a friend. It also tells of what our men and women in the military see durning war, he haunted dreams of death, the silent cries of regret, guilt left behind of friends, brothers lost. Part of me wanted Daniel to find his place in that small town along side of Hollie & opening up and allowing Hollie to help him through his PTSD.....Over all I liked the book, but felt like more could have been said & done without all the killing and fighting & came out with the same outcome and maybe a little more closure in the end. That's why I gave it 3.5 stars and not 4
Good book, a quick read. If you want a good book with a good amount of action and something that will get you thru a couple of rainy days while on vacation than this is a great book for you. It is one of those stories where the good guys don't necessarily go looking for trouble but it some how always finds them. When it does the good guys pack a little more punch than was expected. You have the rich and powerful people that think they can buy anything they want but when someone stands up to them they don't like it much and when they can't handle it themselves then they start hiring more bad guys which is fine because that just makes it a target rich environment and adds to the action. There is lots of action but it is not full of a lot of gory details, just enough to give you the flavor of whats going on. This is a series type book so you know that Daniel survives and will move on, but what about the rest of the people of the town he meets and becomes friends with? And how did he get involved in this fight and why didn't he just bounce rather than hang around when he could have easily hopped a bus and moved on? Like I said,It a good book, order it up on your Kindle and start reading it, you won't be disappointed.
I started reading "Corps Justice" books while I was waiting for the next edition of my favorite Sci-Fi series to be released. Now I've read all the Corps Justices books, I am reading the latest that was just released yesterday, and I'm participating in the "on the fly" review of the next one to be released as Cooper is writing it. They are all great reading and well worth the time. I haven't read one yet that I wanted to end.The next edition of the Sci-Fi series is out but it is on hold while I read Corps Justice books.
